Roof in the Synagogue is Fixed

Lostice. (rš) Only few years ago the synagogue in Lostice was gradually deteriorating. Now it is definitively saved. The new roof was just finished. The roof and former consolidation of foundation, walls and ceiling represents the important step in the preservation of this Jewish monument.

“We are happy the roof is finished. New roof is essential because the old one was leaking”, said Mayor of Lostice Ctirad Lolek. The cost of the roof was over a million Czech crowns (about 50 000USD). The reconstruction was done with the financial assistance from the Foundation for Czech-German Future.

“The repair of the synagogue will continue. We will start with exterior plaster and windows. It will cost about 700 000 Czech crowns (35 000USD) and half of this will be paid by the Foundation for Holocaust Victims,” said Lolek.

The town received the money thanks to cooperation with the foundation for Respect and Tolerance, which is documenting the history of the local Jewish Community….In future the synagogue will be used as a concert hall and gallery. The Foundation Respect and Tolerance is preparing a small museum of Jewish community, which will be located in the synagogue.
