Lostice Synagogue

In 2009 the third phase of reconstruction was completed. The entrance wall now has the new facade. The old one was in a quite bad shape and downgraded this important historical building for many years.

The new facade and restoration in the interior was accomplished thanks to the financial assistance of 200 000 Czech crowns received from the Foundation for Holocaust Victims.

Also in previous years the Foundation for Holocaust Victims and Czech-German Foundation for Future provided a significant financial assistance for the restoration of synagogues in Lostice and Usov and also for maintenance of Jewish cemeteries in both towns. For many years the town of Lostice has been participating in the project of the synagogue restoration as well. During the reconstruction in 2009 the Star of David was placed back in the gable of the synagogue. The original star was cut off by Nazis in 1939. The restoration of the star was paid from a contribution provided by from the Congregation Hakafa (Glenco,Chicago). For many years the congregation uses in their prayer room the old Torah, which came from the Lostice synagogue.

The street leading from the town square to the synagogue was just paved with stone blocks. Very recently the synagogue and its area was not in a very too good shape, but now this locality is becoming one of the nicest parts of the town.  During the reconstruction in 2009, as in preceding years, the synagogue was opening for public all years around.
