Servitus On Friday May 7th 2010 seventeen volunteers from Germany and one from Hungary arrived to Loštice. They came to work in the Jewish cemetery. These young people are stationed in the Czech Republic for a year. During their stay they work and also study Jewish history and culture. The fact they worked in the cemetery on Saturday 8th, which is the National holiday commemorating the end of WWII resulted in a considerable attention of media. On Sunday morning they visited the Lostice synagogue, where they were greeted by the Mayor Dr. Ctirad Lolek. During discussion a representative of the Respect and Tolerance Foundation familiarized them with the history of Jewish Communities in the Lostice area. The meeting was followed by a lunch consisting of the local specialty - fried Tvaruzky cheese. Their activities in the Czech Republic are organized by associations ASF and SERVITUS. They also cooperate with Jewish communities and organizations. In the summer volunteers are coming back to Lostice - this time they will stay, work and study local and general Jewish history there for two weeks.
