John Kerry

The United States senator from Massachusetts and the Democratic candidate for president in 2004. Graduated from Yale University in 1966 and joined the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Kerry won the Silver Star, the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts, but returned to the USA as an outspoken opponent of the war.

Siegfried Lowe was born in Usov in 1834. His father Leopold Lowy owned the house #XXVI which still exists (presently #159 Nerudova Street). His grandparents, great grandparents and their families used to live in Usov since 1716. Most of them are resting in the local Jewish cemetery. His daughter Ida, born March 20, 1877 in Budapest, married in 1900 Fritz Kohn. Mr. Kohn changed his name to Frederic Kerry, converted to Catholic faith and moved to the USA.
